The restaurant is named after Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, and that connection to the African continent is evident in both the menu and the overall vibe.

The menu at Dakar Nola features a wonderful mix of African-inspired dishes with a distinct New Orleans twist. One of the standout items is the classic Senegalese dish, yassa poulet, a marinated chicken served with a tangy mustard sauce, which perfectly captures the boldness and depth of African cuisine. For seafood lovers, the moules-frites (mussels with fries) offers a delightful nod to both Senegalese and French culinary traditions. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing fresh, local ingredients to create these dishes, making every bite a reflection of New Orleans’ local culture while honoring the flavors of West Africa.

Vegetarians and vegans are well-catered to with options like jollof rice and vegetable maafe, a hearty dish made with peanut sauce, vegetables, and spices, offering rich flavors that are both comforting and satisfying. The variety of options ensures that there’s something for everyone, no matter your dietary preference.

The drink menu at Dakar Nola is just as thoughtfully crafted, featuring a selection of tropical cocktails that pair beautifully with the dishes. The Dakar Sunset cocktail, a refreshing mix of rum, fruit juices, and a touch of mint, is perfect for sipping on a warm New Orleans afternoon. There’s also a carefully curated wine list that complements the spiciness and richness of the food, offering choices that enhance the meal without overpowering it.

  • I've been to a lot of restaurants all over the world and nothing tops this in terms of atmosohere, experience, knowledge from the staff, and service. I've been here twice and both times and i swear, it felt spiritual. I've met lifelong friends from the communal experience that Dakar offered. I'm truly thankful.

  • Had an amazing experience eating at Dakar NOLA. The menu was fresh, thoughtful and a great marriage of Senegalese and New Orleans flavors. The service was top notch and because it’s a relatively small restaurant, the atmosphere was intimate and relaxed. Was only passing through NOLA for 1 night and there were so many great restaurants to choose from but I’m so happy I went with Dakar. It was one of my favorite meals ever!!!

  • Had an amazing dinner at Dakar NOLA, the hype around this restaurant is real! Being of West African origin, I am very familiar with a lot of the ingredients used in food preparation. The recipes are ingenious, the food presentation and wine pairing were fabulous. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. This was a gastronomical experience not soon to be forgotten. Be aware that you need to arrive on time. Everyone in the restaurant is served each course at the same time.

  • This was not just delicious food, it was an experience! The service was so polite, personable, and attentive. Your glass most likely won’t get to half full. The food itself was a 10/10 from start to finish. Everything wasn’t just delicious, but a work of art! I highly recommend the communal option, as you will have very cool people to talk to during your meal. I’d also like to thank the hostess for giving me these beautiful chocolates when she learned I was there for my birthday. We will definitely be returning!

  • The Food - Absolutely delicious, the flavours were outstanding and the best way for me to describe the taste and feeling was luxuriously elevated home cooking. The Service - Was fine… you could tell the impetus was there to create an elevated dining experience but for varying reasons it just sort of fell short. The table constantly being wiped off with a wet cloth leaving a wet table to sit at, waiters stumbling over menu descriptions or badgering for drinks orders when we made clear we would save our cocktail order for the end. At the end of the meal we were brought our bill before being asked if we were finished (irony is they have an aperitif section of the drinks menu, but we didn’t get asked if we wanted one) …something that did suprise me, they served a hot sauce which I LOVED! I said they should sell this as I’d love to take it home. She said let me see what they can do, as they’ve thought about selling it! She came out with a pot and I was overjoyed, no mention of price or cost. Then to our shock there it was awkwardly on the bill at a price point of $35 - good hospitality venues either let you know the cost or offer as a memorable moment that keeps you coming back. That took me aback for sure! The Atmosphere - Was calm and pleasant but it just lacked something… better lighting? Slightly higher volumes of music? Unsure. All in all it was a delicious meal. I’m not sure it’s worth $165 per person and I hate to be charged gratuity before dining but I was glad we tried Dakar as the flavours were unlike any other tasting menu we have been to.

  • An absolute treat. Every course was amazing. I added on the lobster, which was amazing. Participated in the communal dinner experience as a solo traveler, it was an excellent chance to talk with others. This was definitely the highlight of my NOLA trip. I would love to return to experience more menu options. I highly recommend if you love good unique foods.

  • I’ve been wanting to make it out to Dakar Nola for a while and finally made it happen and glad to say it did not disappoint. Every dish was super flavorful and did a great job of demonstrating the connection between African and New Orleans/Louisiana cuisine. The atmosphere is formal without being pretentious with an overall great team that seemed to work together well to take care of each guest. Was it expensive…sure…but I’d argue the quality of the ingredients and care put into the food made it worth it. Overall great experience and I can’t wait to come back and try it again!!
